Symbol in the labels of medicinal products

According to the Paediatric Regulation, a standard symbol is to be printed in the labels of medicinal products authorised for use in the paediatric population. The Paediatric Committee is to make a recommendation on a suitable symbol.

Based on its analysis of the potential advantages and disadvantages, the Paediatric Committee determined that the use of a single symbol may lead to misunderstandings. Therefore the Paediatric Committee stated in its opinion issued on 20 December 2007 that it cannot recommend the adoption of a standard symbol.

In response to the recommendation, the European Commission determined on 30 January 2008 that the selection of a uniform symbol was not possible.
