International Non-proprietary Names for Pharmaceutical Substances (INN)

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been conducting a programme for the definition of Recommended International Non-proprietary Names for Pharmaceutical Substances (INN) for over 60 years. It has named some 10900 substances so far. These names are commonly used in the package leaflets of medicinal products, pharmacopoeias, literature on medicines and customs tariff item lists.
This cumulative list contains all INN names recommended by the WHO in alphabetic order in English. The first column contains the names in English, the second in Latin, and the third column lists the corresponding official names in Finnish.

The list does not include names in Swedish. Swedish names of the substances that are used in medicinal products are available via the search on the website of the Swedish Medicinal Products Agency, MPA (Läkemedelsverket).

The list is updated whenever necessary, or when the WHO publishes a new INN list of recommended names for pharmaceutical substances. Recently added names are marked with blue background.
