Fimea is a central administrative agency operating under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Fimea uses public authority and its operations are regulated by act and decree. In addition, Fimea can issue binding regulations to pharmaceutical operators.
Up-to-date Finnish medical legislation is available online free of charge in the Finlex legislative information database. Finlex is a public service maintained by the Ministry of Justice, providing access to Finnish legislation. All Fimea's valid regulations are available in Finlex (in Finnish and Swedish). Unofficial English translations of some legislative texts can also be searched via Finlex. European legislation can be found at EUR-Lex.
