The basic register for medicinal products is a register maintained by Fimea on medicinal products with marketing authorisation and products with a temporary special permit.

The Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea will publish a list of the supply shortages reported by authorisation holders. The list of supply shortages will include information on current shortages and shortages that will start in two weeks. The list contains the medicinal product’s VNR number, information on whether the shortage is ongoing, the estimated start and end dates for the supply shortage, the date on which the information was last updated and the name of the marketing authorisation holder. Fimea will submit the reported information to the list unchanged. If the product does not have a VNR number, it does not appear on the listing.

Fimea does not receive information about shortages from the parallel distributors and veterinary medicines based on the Medicines Act (395/1987), section 27, unless company sends this shortage information voluntarily. For this reason, any information about the availability of parallel distributed product is uncertain. Open datafile does not include information about suspected shortages which have come to Fimea’s knowledge and which are shown on data searching pages of medicinal products and shortages on Fimea’s website. The holder of a marketing authorisation or registration, or their representative, must notify Fimea of a temporary withdrawal from the market of a medicinal product, i.e. a shortage at least two months before the shortage.

The Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea creates and maintains a list of interchangeable medicines that are biologically equivalent and whose active substance and concentration are the same.

The purpose of the Meds75+ database is to support the clinical decision-making on the pharmacotherapy of patients over 75 years of age and to improve medication safety in primary health care. The database contains a classification and a recommendation for use of almost 500 medicinal substances or combinations thereof in elderly patients.

The National High-Risk Medicines Classification lists high-risk medicines for which special attention should be given. The classification is intended for use by health care professionals and helps to identify key high-risk medicines in different health and social care settings. The classification supports clinical decision-making on pharmacotherapies and the planning and implementation of pharmacotherapies at different stages of the medication process.

The open data provided by Fimea is licensed under CC BY 4.0. This license defines how open data may be utilised. Indicate the name of the licensor, the name of the material and the date and time when the material was released by Fimea.

Fimea shall not be liable for any loss, legal proceedings, claims, proceedings, demands, costs or damages regardless of their cause or form, which can be directly or indirectly connected to open data or use of open data published by Fimea.
