Supervision of deliberate release

EN Avoimen käytön valvonta

Deliberate release means intentional spreading of genetically engineered organisms into the environment in experiments in research and development (in field experiments) or as products being marketed. Fimea monitors the health effects of genetically modified organisms. Supervision is based on an application prepared by the operator to the Board for Gene Technology and a risk evaluation of planned use as well as a possible follow-up plan and follow-up reports.

Other supervisory authorities for open use are The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), which supervises deliberate release in environmental questions, and The Finnish Food Safety Authority (Ruokavirasto), which focuses on questions of agriculture and forestry. Supervision of open use is led by the Board for Gene Technology (GTLK), which operates in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
