Supervision of contained use

EN Suljetun käytön valvonta

Contained use is the use of genetically modified organisms in scientific research, product development or industrial production that takes place in enclosed premises, primarily in laboratories, greenhouses or production facilities.

Fimea supervises the use of genetically modified organisms in contained use premises by means of inspections. Serving as a foundation of supervision are the notifications and applications submitted to the Board for Gene Technology by operators in the field of genetic engineering. These documents include, among other things, the description of the genetically modified organisms as well as the risk assessment of their planned use.

The operators subject to inspection are selected in accordance with an annual supervision plan based on notifications and applications filed with the gene technology register. If necessary, we can also implement other inspections.
