Blood and tissue establishments

A blood establishment refers to an operating unit that collects and examines human blood and blood components and processes, stores and distributes blood and blood products intended for blood transfusion. 

A tissue establishment refers to a tissue bank, hospital unit, or other establishment in which human tissues and cells are procured, processed, preserved, stored or distributed. Tissue establishments include fertility treatment clinics, units providing stem cell treatments and stem cell laboratories as well as various tissue banks, such as bone banks. 

Fimea steers and supervises the activities of blood and tissue establishments in Finland and participates in international co-operation between authorities.
