A video in spoken Easy Finnish provides accessible information on the safe use of medicines

The National Medicines Information Network has prepared a new guideline for the safe use of medicines.  The guidelines for the safe use of medicines developed by the National Medicines Information Network have been continued. The video “Näin käytät lääkettä turvallisesti” ("How to use a medicine safely") contains spoken and subtitled information on the safe use of medicines in Easy Finnish. The video is suitable for digital information displays in health care reception lobbies and customer service desks, for example.

The content of the spoken Easy Finnish video is based on the guide "Instructions for the safe use of medicines" which is aimed at medicine users living in Finland. The guide contains information on the safe use of medicines, reimbursements for medicines, services at pharmacies and the procurement of medicines. The guide was updated in early 2024 in Easy Finnish, Swedish and English. The guide published in Easy Finnish has received the Easy Finnish logo issued by Selkokeskus, the centre for Easy Finnish. 

New types of communication

The video “Näin käytät lääkettä turvallisesti” ("How to use a medicine safely") spoken in Easy Finnish has been produced to supplement existing information.  A spoken Easy Finnish video is a new form of communication that Fimea hopes to receive feedback on. The difference between a spoken Easy Finnish video and a normal video is that the content in the Easy Finnish video is less complex. Easy Finnish is simplified Finnish that uses easy words and sentences. Easy Finnish is suitable for people who find standard Finnish too difficult.
