EU-wide database of veterinary medicines opened on 28 January 2022

As required by the EU Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulation (2019/6), the Veterinary Medicines information database (Union Product Database, UPD) intended for everyone has now been opened. The database is maintained by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and national medicines agencies.

The database will cover basic information on all veterinary medicines authorised in the EU, regardless of their marketing authorisation process, and on the availability of veterinary medicinal products in different Member States. The database also contains summaries of product characteristics and package leaflets for veterinary medicines. You can search for information by active substance, name of the veterinary medicine, animal species and route of administration. Other search parameters are the ATCvet code, availability, marketing authorisation status and marketing authorisation date, or products can be searched in alphabetical order from A to Z. The database can also be used when selecting treatment options by comparing the available data.

In the database, marketing authorisation holders manage the administrative processes themselves, which makes it simpler and more streamlined.

Variations not requiring an assessment cannot be processed in the database for the time being, unless the product subject to the variation and authorised for marketing in Finland is found there. In these cases, please send an email to [email protected] so that Fimea can fill in the information in the database immediately.

At the time of publication, the database does not cover data on all over 40,000 products authorised in the EU, but authorities will be doing their best to update the data.
