7 February 2024 is the National Preparedness Day – remember to check your medicine cabinet

The Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea would like to remind everyone that the 72-hour preparedness supply kits at home also include medicines.

If you are on medication, you should renew any prescriptions you have in good time and ensure that you have a few days’ supply of medicines at home. In addition to essential medicines, the preparedness supply kit should also contain first aid supplies. It is advisable to check the contents of your medicine cabinet regularly and to dispose of any expired or unused medicines.

If you use any critical battery-powered medical devices, you should also make sure that you have a backup power supply for your device and that you have batteries for any health monitoring devices you need, such as a blood pressure monitor.

The purpose of the National Preparedness Day is to remind everyone of the importance of preparedness and to urge everyone to take measures to improve preparedness at home. The National Preparedness Day takes place on 7 February (7/2), as the authorities and organisations recommend each household to have enough supplies to survive at least 72 hours. The National Preparedness Day is organised by the Finnish National Rescue Association in cooperation with the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and the National Emergency Supply Agency.
