Fimea promotes medication safety by offering information products based on evidence and expert opinion to support the work of health care professionals. The management of organisations can ensure the implementation of rational pharmacotherapy by using Meds75+ and the National High-risk Medicines Classification. The information products are available free of charge as open data and can thus be integrated into information systems.

National High-risk Medicines Classification is available in an integrable format

The content of the High-risk Medicines Classification has been updated and it is now available on the Fimea website in a format that can be integrated into information systems.

High-risk medicines are medicines the use of which requires special attention. When used correctly, they may cause no more hazardous situations than other medicines, but their incorrect use may have serious consequences for the patient. The classification helps identify key high-risk medicines and ensure their safe use.

The information production processes of Meds75+ have been reformed

The information production processes of Meds75+ have been reformed and the contents have been structured, which will ensure the better quality of information content. Meds75+ guides people to take changes related to ageing into account in the selection of medicines. The data content for the database is compiled by a working group consisting of experts in pharmacotherapy for older people, which produces a substance-specific class (A-D) and a concise recommendation text on the suitability of the medicine for use by persons aged 75 or over.

The aim is to improve the usability and recognition of the information products

Meds75+ and the High-risk Medicines Classification contain commonly used medicines. The information products can be utilised in different environments participating in pharmacotherapy and at different stages of the medication process. Ensuring medication safety is a multi-professional and multi-level process, and ultimately also under the responsibility of the drug user when they carry out their medication themselves. The management of the organisation plays a key role in creating a safety culture and developing medication safety. Induction of personnel and their guidance in the use of the information products will help in the selection of safer medicines for the use of older people and in preventing hazardous events related to risk medicines.

The visual identity of both information products has been renewed and the logos have been updated. Marketing communications during the spring will increase awareness of Meds75+ and the High-risk Medicines Classification.
