Anaphylactic reactions in cattle increased in Europe
In the last few years, an increased number of anaphylactic reactions in cattle has been observed in Europe. The reactions have occurred after the administration of several different medicinal products. One possible reason is a previous vaccination with a bluetongue vaccine. Bluetongue vaccines are not being used in Finland. In some cases, the anaphylaxis following the administration of an antibiotic has been preceded by a mastitis vaccine. It has not been possible to establish a certain causal link between previous vaccinations and anaphylaxis or another root cause.
Veterinary practitioners are advised to report anaphylactic reactions observed in cattle after medication and to provide as comprehensive information as possible on the history of the animal's previous medications and vaccinations. You can file an adverse reaction record using the electronic form.
The authorities are monitoring the situation in Europe.
