Medicines Day 2026 focuses on over-the-counter products and reliable information

The theme chosen for the Finnish National Medicines Day 2026 is 'Medicinal treatment begins with knowledge – OTC medicines as part of my medication.' The annual national theme day for medicine users and healthcare and social welfare professionals will be held again in March 2026.  

The main event is a webinar open to everyone on 12 March 2026  

The nationwide main event of the Medicines Day will be the webinar themed 'medicinal treatment begins with knowledge – OTC medicines as part of my medication' on Thursday 12 March 2026 from 13.00 to 15.15. You can watch the webinar via a livestream. Add this date to your calendar now to make sure you won’t miss it!   

“In the webinar, we will hear the views of various experts and the experiences of medicine users on how we can work together to ensure safe medicinal treatment. The most important thing is to know where to look for reliable information. We will also hear about the importance of over-the-counter products and the role of the medicine user,” says Tarja Pajunen, Chair of the Medicines Day Planning Team and specialist at the Finnish Union of Practical Nurses SuPer.  

Join Medicines Day!  

The goal of the day is to encourage users of medicines to ask questions and talk about their medicines and their own pharmaceutical treatment.  

We encourage operators, such as pharmacies, patient organisations, healthcare and social welfare providers, and students and educational institutions in the field, to participate in the theme day as much as possible. You can share social media posts for the theme day or organise your own local events. Working together with several local organisations lessens the workload and also increases the visibility of the theme day.  

“The Medicines Day materials produced through cooperation can be used by all operators throughout the year,” emphasises Päivi Kiviranta, Development Specialist at Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea.

This slogan is also used in the Medicines Day communications: 'Information is the foundation of medicinal treatment – keep your medication list updated.' In social media, content and posts can be shared with the hashtags #lääkehoidonpäivä and #tunnelääkkeesi. 

The Planning Team of the National Medicines Information Network is responsible for the annual theme and planning of the Medicines Day.
