Susanna Peltoniemi, M.Sc. (Eng), has been appointed Director of the Monitoring and Availability area of responsibility at the Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea. The area of responsibility consists of three sections: Availability and laboratory, Inspectorate and Medical devices.

“The changing operating environment means that there is a constant stream of new matters to consider in the development of impactful supervision. At the same time, the significance of public authority tasks related to security of supply is growing. Supervision legislation is also changing in terms of medicines, distribution of medicines, medical devices, and substances of human origin for transplant. In this changing landscape, there is more and more need for the expertise of Fimea and the information that Fimea produces for the society and decision-makers. I look forward to continuing in my new role and working together with the stakeholders to develop the industry,” Peltoniemi says.

Peltoniemi has previously worked as the Head of Section of Medical devices, and she has worked as the Acting Director of the Monitoring and Availability area of responsibility for nearly a year. Before joining Fimea, Peltoniemi worked at several multinational medical device manufacturers in different types of product management and quality management roles.
