Applying for a special permit electronically is possible soon
Fimea is currently setting up a new case management and e-service system for special permits (ERKKA), which will make it possible to apply for a special permit electronically online. Launching the e-service will mean changes for everyone involved. Going forward, the e-service will be the primary way of drawing up an application for a special permit and submitting it to Fimea. Fimea will also serve its decisions on special permits in Erkka.
Each application for a special permit will still be prepared in cooperation between the prescriber and the party releasing the product for consumption. After the update, everyone involved will process the same electronic application while identified in Erkka, with no need to send the application from one party to another. Doctors, dentists and veterinarians will be using Suomi.fi e-Identification, which involves an automatic check of professional practice rights. Other parties will be identified with an authorisation service or server certificate.
The information content of the special permit application has been updated and the process for drawing up the application has been streamlined. The aim is to launch the e-service for special permits in early 2025. Fimea will share more information in stages and offer different kinds of support for using the e-service.
The first step of digitising the special permit is that Fimea will retire the prescription appendix to the patient-specific special permit application starting 1 October 2024.
