National pharmacopoeia documents

According to the Medicines Act 82 §, the Finnish Medicines Agency must confirm the pharmacopoeia to be followed. Pharmacopoeia decisions enter into force every year on the first day of January, April, and July (1.1., 1.4., and 1.7.) and are published on Fimea’s website about one month before the effective date.

The list of monographs includes all currently applicable European pharmacopoeia monographs, arranged alphabetically by their names in English. The second column contains the Latin names, and the third and fourth columns contain the corresponding confirmed Finnish and Swedish names.

Names of homeopathic preparations are compiled into a separate section at the end of the list. Homeopathic preparations are given names in English, Latin, Swedish, and Finnish, as well as unofficial common names in Finnish and Swedish.

The list is updated three times a year. The most recent changes and additions are marked with blue background.

European Pharmacopoeia dosage form monographs are presented in a separate table with names in English, Latin, Finnish, and Swedish. The dosage form monographs and their definitions are fully presented in the section “Dosage forms” of the European Pharmacopoeia. The Dosage forms section also includes a glossary with definitions and explanations of terms used in general monographs on dosage forms and in section 2.9 Pharmaceutical technical tests.

The dosage form, route of administration, and packaging of medicinal products must be stated in marketing authorisations and product information using approved standard terms. The terms are defined in English and have official translations in the languages of member and observer states.

All standard terms, their definitions, and translations can be found in the Standard Terms database maintained by EDQM, which is open and free for all users. However, using the database requires registration via the EDQM website: EDQM – Standard Terms, register.
